is it worth you just trying to go for
the relocation now and try and get
moving the best way to reduce Ryan's
pain is to try and put his kneecap back
into its
socket ambulance services patient
breathing yes he is okay and is he
conscious yes he is it's an i and the
patient basically collapsed fell on the
floor and now we won't get back up he's
uh complaining with his
knee so we're going to with 25y old male
query injury knee dislocation oh I like
a good dislocated knee I like putting
them back in on the way to the job we
were wondering what was going on it was
a Saturday night it was quite late on it
was in a
nightclub patient as a doorman was
searching a member of the public when
his knee slightly bent when he felt his
knee popped and he fell to the floor
patient is unable to get up off the
floor
oo things I'm kind of worried about is
is it a dislocation or is it a fracture
and is it one that I can do anything
with if it's a knee I can try and do
something about it my name's want
paramedic so can you tell me what's
happened
soor okay I was searching someone
tonight eyes collapsed and fell back
it's 25-year-old Ryan's first shift as a
Dorman as he was bending down to search
a customer he suddenly felt his knee
give right can you just tell me which
leg it is and I'll have a look at it
please I'm pain I will it's really
difficult attending to patients in these
type of venues because the music is so
loud it's dark now put your
toes I'm going active got two you got
two charges we either pull them up or
cut
them so what we're going to do cut this
one up give you some
painkillers we'll get you on the
stretcher yeah
it's once we cut up both of Ryan's
trousers we can clearly see the
difference between one kneecap and the
other with a patient that's got a
dislocation they're going to be in a
fair bit of pain my main concern is how
are we're going to manage that pain and
ideally reduce it so breathe in like
you're sucking on a McDonald's straw for
a milkshake yeah in hold it for 2
seconds slowly breathe out a nice deep
breath really fill your lungs hold for
two and then slowly Breathe Out Try best
for you
[Music]
oh Chris gives Ryan gas and air this
mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide
should help reduce his pain how's that
gas and air working for
you you seem a lot chills
anyway it's been laugh good stuff that's
why it's called laughing gas it's called
laughing
gas with the gas and air starting to
take effect Chris and Anne need to get
Ryan onto the ambulance so they can
assess him ran we're try you to stand up
on your good leg this one stand twist
sit okay I'll try best I'll try our best
yeah but I I don't swear I don't s it's
all right but what we're try to do is we
we get you on the stretcher at least you
keep going on this you take some nice
deep breath okay stand and
Switch
I'll you you trust us mate use
us take the gas in there
mate is it worth you're just trying to
go for the relocation now and try and
get
into its socket right Ryan I'm going to
try and get this back in now
okay in the ambulance service we're
limited to one way to do this all we
have to do is gently hold the leg and
try and straighten it most often this
will work and get the kneecap back in
but it is very painful to do
it dude relax Ryan Ryan take the gas in
there but do you want know the good news
it's back
in all right buddy how much you like me
now I believe the next round's on you
all right
me my cut this
keep it can you keep it yeah it's like a
pet of coll but not
alol 25-year-old Ryan who dislocated his
knee on his first shift as a Dorman
underwent a series of
x-rays it was confirmed that I ripped
all me cartilage in my leg and that's
what caused my KN to pop
out he's been having Physio and he now
back at work mini is a lot better I've
been constantly moving around um with my
job as well um so much I've lost weight
which has helped my need to recover
better good on Mister the treatment T re
from the paramedics that day were
fantastic when onon the arrival um I
couldn't find him enough um for it how
they looked after me um the information
they given me things I need to do um and
yeah I'm so so grateful and you know
they were fantastic on the night
